There is nowhere on earth quite like Las Vegas. Also known as Sin City, it rose out of the Mojave Desert as an act of pure human ambition — a city of neon lights, world-class entertainment, and the intoxicating idea that anything can happen here. It’s excessive and spectacular and completely unapologetic about it. The Strip

For a different kind of view, the High Roller observation wheel at The LINQ Promenade is the tallest in the world — a slow, sweeping ride that puts the entire city at your feet, best done at sunset or after dark.

Entertainment & Shows

Las Vegas calls itself the Entertainment Capital of the World, and the claim holds up. The city’s theaters host an extraordinary range of shows — Cirque du Soleil productions that redefine what live performance can be, magic shows, comedy, residencies from some of the biggest names in music. On any given night, the entertainment options are overwhelming in the best possible way.

And then there’s the Sphere — the extraordinary new venue that opened in 2023 just off the Strip. It’s the largest spherical structure in the world, with an interior screen that wraps entirely around the audience for an immersive experience that has to be seen to be understood. It’s already one of the most talked-about venues in the world, and for good reason.

Downtown & Fremont Street

Beyond the Strip, downtown Las Vegas tells a different story. Fremont Street Experience is where Vegas began — a covered pedestrian mall with a massive LED canopy that puts on a light and music show every hour after dark. It’s louder and grittier than the Strip, with a vintage Vegas energy that feels like a time capsule. The Golden Nugget, the most famous casino downtown, is an institution.

The Neon Museum nearby is one of the most underrated attractions in Las Vegas — a boneyard of retired neon signs from the city’s past, stretching back to the 1930s. It’s a genuinely moving piece of Americana, and the night tours are spectacular.

Food & Nightlife

Las Vegas has transformed itself into one of the great food cities in America. Celebrity chefs have opened some of their most ambitious restaurants here, and the range — from high-end tasting menus to the legendary all-you-can-eat buffets — is staggering. The casino hotels compete fiercely on dining, which means the quality is consistently high across the Strip.

When the sun goes down, Vegas truly becomes itself. Nightclubs inside the major casino hotels draw some of the world’s biggest DJs. Pool parties at the resort day clubs are an experience unique to Las Vegas. Bars and lounges stay open through the night, and the city’s famous 24-hour policy means there’s no last call, no closing time, no reason to stop.

Sports Hub

Las Vegas has rapidly become a serious sports city. The Raiders — one of the NFL’s most storied and controversial franchises — play at Allegiant Stadium, a stunning $2 billion facility that has quickly become one of the premier venues in American sports. The Vegas Golden Knights brought an NHL franchise to the desert in 2017 and won the Stanley Cup in just their sixth season. The Las Vegas Aces are back-to-back WNBA champions. And every November, the Las Vegas Grand Prix brings Formula 1 to the Strip itself — the cars racing past the casinos in one of the most surreal and glamorous spectacles in world motorsport.

Beyond the Strip

Las Vegas is surrounded by some of the most dramatic landscapes in North America, and getting out of the city for a day is one of the best decisions you can make.

Red Rock Canyon, just 30 minutes west of the Strip, is a stunning conservation area with towering red sandstone formations, scenic drives, and hiking trails that feel a million miles from the neon. The Hoover Dam, less than an hour away, is one of the great engineering achievements of the 20th century — the tour inside is fascinating and the views from the top are extraordinary.

The Grand Canyon is around four hours by car, or a short flight or helicopter tour away. Many visitors base themselves in Las Vegas for a day trip, and the South Rim is one of the most awe-inspiring natural sights in the world. Don’t skip it if you have the time.

For something completely different, the drive out towards Area 51 and the tiny town of Rachel, Nevada passes through some of the most otherworldly desert landscape in America. It’s become one of the quirky pilgrimages that Las Vegas makes possible — strange, remote, and oddly compelling.

Only in Vegas

Las Vegas is also the wedding capital of the world. The city’s famous drive-through chapels and themed venues make it possible to get married at any hour, with or without much planning. It’s become one of the most iconic Vegas experiences — absurd and romantic in equal measure.
